Green Comfort School of Herbal Medicine

Green Comfort operates a school, apothecary and clinic in the beauty and lush mountainside of Rappahannock County. Although the business is designed to teach others healthy ways to experience herbs, it is not a retail outlet. There are many opportunities for the community to participate in this unique environment. Some classes are available for small groups planning a weekend retreat in Rappahannock: Botanica Erotica, Food as Medicine, Adrenal Adaptogens for Vitality. Clinic is open for appointments on Thursdays for the herbalist in training to see clients and guide others to optimal health. Look us up for more information.

Hans W. Gerhard Art at Hughes River Farm

For many years, Hans Gerhard considered himself a recreational painter of landscapes, and occasional carver of wooden objects, sometimes recognizable as birds, mammals, or fish. Since moving to Hughes River Farm in Rappahannock County in 1987, and encouraged by kindred spirits among the Rappahannock arts and craft community, he has turned to working with scrap iron and steel to create sometimes bizarre, usually rusty, and occasionally whimsical sculptures.  His paintings, meanwhile, have left the realm of observed “reality” and turned emphatically abstract: creating their own reality, leaving the viewers to reach into their own imagination.

Harmany Equine Clinic

Harmany Equine Clinic, Ltd has been open since 1990, bringing holistic healing to horses from all walks of life, backyard retirees to Olympic competitors. Over the years Dr. Joyce Harman has observed and adapted to the changing needs of our horses and clients.

Twenty-plus years ago, no one had heard of Lyme disease or Insulin Resistance, yet today that makes up a large part of my clinical practice. Since most of my horse clients also have small animal companions, I have added small animal services at my barn.
