Old Rag Photography & Gallery

Old Rag Photography is a cooperative of three experienced members — Ray Boc, Joyce Harman, and Francie Schroeder. While we all reside in Rappahannock County, Virginia each of us brings something different to the group and each contributes to the business. All of us enjoy sharing our love for and teaching about this versatile media.

We offer fine-quality prints, classes, and photographic services. You can find our work on display upstairs at The Dark Horse Irish Pub (previously Griffin Tavern), 659 Zachary Taylor Hwy., Flint Hill, Va. We exhibit in the gallery and show work throughout the restaurant.

Plein Air Painting Lessons with Nora Harrington

SLOW DOWN.  LOOK.  REALLY  LOOK. 

What better way to enjoy yourself in nature than by creating a painting of what you see outdoors?

As a professional artist with over twenty years of teaching experience, I will guide you through the process of creating a plein air landscape painting.

I will provide all of the supplies and not only will you have a wonderful time but you’ll take home a 12″ x 16″ oil painting on canvas. Looking at your painting will always take you back to the many moments you spent out in the countryside, truly looking at the world around you.

Couples and groups (up to 8) are welcome. 

  • Outdoor  (“plein air”) painting lessons
  • Taught in three one-hour sessions in a variety of locations.
  • Supplies included (unless you prefer to bring your own)

The Dark Horse Irish Pub

The Dark Horse Irish Pub, commonly known as “An Capall Dorcha,” is a distinctive and endearing place situated in the village of Flint Hill. The building, formerly the Griffin Tavern, has a lengthy and interesting history that dates back to the 1850s. The structure was once the Bradford family’s home and then served as the community’s local shop before becoming a pub.

The sole Irish pub in Rappahannock County, Virginia, now The Dark Horse Irish Pub, which has given this old structure new life. The interior of the bar has traditional Irish furnishings and warm wood finishes that will instantly transport visitors to the Emerald Isle.
