Trinity Church was built in Bromfield Parish, which was formed in 1752. Construction on Trinity Church began on Saturday, May 30, 1857, 105 years after the parish’s formation. The cornerstone was laid by the Masonic Lodge of Washington in a special communication. A copper box was placed within the stone, containing:
- A Book of Common Prayer
- The Journal of the 61st Annual Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church of Virginia
- The Episcopal Recorder
- The Southern Churchman
- The Masonic Mirror
- “Dew Drops,” a small book by J.E. Dow, a local schoolmistress at Washington Academy
- Several 5-cent coins
- Two dimes
- A quarter
- A 50-cent piece
- A gold dollar
Construction of Trinity Church was completed by late fall of the same year.
Trinity has three Sunday services:
8:00 AM – Holy Eucharist Rite I
10:30 AM – Holy Eucharist Rite II
5:00 PM- Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer
Please note the Sanctuary is always open, all are welcome.
